Covered concrete patio with pergola and outdoor seating

The whole yard

We remodel the whole backyard, not one piece of it

Patios, covers, kitchens, fire, walls, turf, planting and pool decks, designed together and built by one crew instead of five subcontractors who have never met.

What a whole backyard remodel actually means

A backyard remodel is not one job, it is six or seven jobs that have to agree with each other. The patio has to be sized to the furniture you will actually put on it. The cover has to land on footings that were poured knowing the posts were coming. The kitchen island needs gas, water and power sleeved under the slab before anyone finishes the surface. The turf and the planting need somewhere for water to go. Get the order wrong and you spend the back half of the project cutting into work you already paid for.

We plan the whole yard first and then build it in the right sequence, which is the quiet reason our jobs finish when we said they would. Ownership or Ruben walks the space with you, works out how you use it and where the afternoon sun lands, and puts the elements where they belong rather than where a catalogue layout says they go.

You end up with one contract, one schedule and one crew to call, instead of a landscape company, a patio structure company, a concrete subcontractor and a pool builder each blaming the other for the thing that does not line up.

  • Concrete patios, extensions and flatwork, poured by our own crew
  • Patio covers, pergolas, California rooms and shade structures
  • Outdoor kitchens, BBQ islands, bar tops and storage
  • Fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, fire tables and seat walls
  • Pavers, retaining walls, planter walls and terracing on sloped lots
  • Artificial turf, putting greens, planting, irrigation and landscape lighting
  • Pool decks, deck resurfacing and coping around an existing pool

Why the concrete underneath decides everything

Most outdoor living companies in this valley subcontract their flatwork. That is the part that fails, and it is the part that is hardest to fix afterwards, because everything else is sitting on top of it. The Salas family has been pouring valley concrete since April 1980 and still pours its own, which changes what we can promise about the base, the reinforcement and the joints.

In practice that means the slab under your cover is thickened where the posts land, the pad under a kitchen island is poured with the utility sleeves already in it, and the control joints are cut where they will not run straight through the middle of your seating area. Those are small decisions that only get made correctly when the people designing the yard are also the people pouring it.

What goes in your yard is engineered concrete, compacted, reinforced and jointed so it holds its shape for decades, not just the first few years.

Drainage is designed in, not fixed afterwards

Slope, joints and drains get planned before anything is poured. We set the fall away from the house and away from the pool, place deck drains where the grade genuinely needs them rather than where they are easy to install, and build the expansion and control joints into the layout instead of cutting them wherever is convenient on the day.

Before we call a job finished we run water across it and look for anywhere it pools, then fix it before we leave. One customer put it more plainly than we could: no puddles, all water runs off exactly how expected.

On a sloped lot, drainage work goes further. Terracing, retaining walls with proper drainage behind them, and subsurface lines all have to be planned together, which is again easier when one company is doing all of it.

What a valley backyard has to survive

Fresno and Clovis summers regularly sit above 105 degrees, which decides more design questions than anything else. Where the afternoon sun lands determines whether a patio gets used in July or stands empty. Finish and colour determine whether a pool deck is walkable barefoot. Shade is the cheapest cooling there is, which is why a cover or a pergola is usually the single highest value thing you can add to a yard here.

Underneath, the valley gives us hardpan, a cemented layer that looks like a perfect base and is not. Water will not move through it, so a slab poured straight onto it without the right prep traps moisture and heaves. Mature valley mulberries and oaks are the other local villain: their roots lift flatwork, and the fix is to remove the roots and install a barrier rather than pour over the top and hope.

Water rules matter too. Fresno and Clovis both run conservation schedules, which is a large part of why turf, decomposed granite and low water planting have taken over from lawn in new yards here.

  • Shade planned around where the sun actually lands in the afternoon
  • Finishes chosen for heat underfoot, not only for how they photograph
  • Hardpan ripped and recompacted where a slab needs it
  • Root removal and root barriers where mature trees caused the damage
  • Low water planting and turf that survive a valley summer

What it costs and how the estimate works

A backyard remodel comes back as one clear written price, not a mysterious lump sum and not a per square foot number. We walk the whole yard with you first, the flatwork, the cover, the kitchen, the fire element, the walls and the planting, so the price reflects what you actually want built and you can decide what to build now and what to leave for next year. Plenty of customers phase it deliberately, and plenty come back years later for phase two.

The estimate is free and it is written. Ownership runs it in person, and we strive to make that visit happen the same day, or within 24 hours if it is not a weekend. It is also the reason for one of the odder things in our reviews: when a job uses less square footage than the allowance you were quoted, that money comes back to you. One customer wrote about exactly that after a one day patio build.

Nothing about the price depends on you deciding today. Ask for the numbers, sit with them, and call us back when you are ready.

How it works

From the first call to the walk through

You will know the price in writing before anybody breaks ground.

  1. Day 1

    Reach out

Send the form and tell us roughly what you have in mind for the yard. You do not need a drawing or a finished idea, a rough sketch on your phone is plenty to start with.

  2. Day 1 to 3

On site walk and 3D design

We come out, walk the yard with you, talk through layout and finishes, and plan around how you actually use the space. We aim to make that visit the same day you call, or within 24 hours on weekdays. Before anything is built, we put together a 3D rendering of the design so you can see the finished yard and ask for changes while it is still just a drawing.

  3. Within days

    Free written estimate

One clear written price, with no surprise line items later. If the finished job uses less footage than the allowance, that money comes back to you.

  4. Scheduled

    Demo and prep

Old concrete comes out, roots and obstacles are dealt with, base and forms go in, and slope, joints and drains are set before anything is poured. Drainage is designed in, not fixed afterwards.

  5. Build week

    Build

Pour, finish, and install the hardscape, turf, shade, fire and kitchen elements. Most single element jobs finish in a day. One 380 sq ft pour was done in under 9 hours ahead of forecast rain.

  6. Same day

    Clean up and walk through

The site is cleared of debris before the crew leaves, and you walk the finished yard with us. One customer wrote that nobody would have known their house had been a construction zone for two days.

  7. After

    Cure and stand behind it

Concrete is given the time it needs to cure properly, and we stay reachable. Customers come back years later for the next phase of the yard, which is the part we are proudest of.

Backyard remodeling questions, answered

Cost, sequence and how long the yard is out of use, answered before you book the estimate.

Can you do the whole backyard, or only the concrete?

The whole backyard. Concrete is what the family has done since 1980 and it is why the rest holds up, but the work covers patios, covers and pergolas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, pavers, retaining walls, artificial turf, planting, irrigation, lighting and pool decks. One contract, one schedule, one crew to call.

Do I have to build it all at once?

No, and most people do not. We design the whole yard first so the phases fit together, then build what you want now and leave the rest ready to go. Doing it in that order means phase two does not involve cutting into phase one. Customers regularly come back a few years later for the next piece.

How long does a full backyard remodel take?

A single element such as a patio or a driveway is often one day. A full remodel with flatwork, a cover, a kitchen, walls, turf and planting runs longer and depends on inspections and material lead times. You get the schedule with the written estimate, before anything is scheduled.

Which towns do you build backyards in?

Fresno and Clovis are home, and the range runs out through Madera, Madera Ranchos, Chowchilla, Sanger, Selma, Kingsburg and Kerman, plus Visalia, Tulare and Hanford.

Do you clean up as you go?

Yes, and before the crew leaves. It is the single most repeated line in our Google reviews. One customer wrote that nobody would have known their house had been a construction zone for the previous two days, which is exactly the standard we are aiming for.

Start with a walk around the yard

Tell us roughly what you picture out there. We come out, usually the same day or within 24 hours if it is not a weekend, and put a written price on it feature by feature so you can decide what to build now.
