Concrete and hardscape, poured by the crew that has done it since 1980

Patios, driveways, walkways, pavers and walls, poured and built by the same family crew that has worked this valley since April 1980.

This is where the family trade started, and it is still the part of the business we self perform rather than subcontract. Most outdoor living companies in this valley hand the flatwork to somebody else, which is exactly the part that fails first. We kept the crew, so the base, the reinforcement and the joints are decided by the same people designing the rest of the yard.

Concrete and hardscape covers the surfaces a yard sits on and the walls that hold a sloped lot together: patios, driveways, walkways, steps, pavers and retaining walls, plus the finish and repair work that keeps an existing slab looking right.

Patios, driveways, walkways and steps

A patio is sized and sloped for the furniture and the shade structure that will eventually sit on it, not poured first and adjusted around later. A driveway carries vehicle loads, so it goes down thicker, reinforced heavier, and on a subgrade compacted to take weight rather than foot traffic. Walkways and entry steps are a smaller pour with an outsized visual return, a scored border or a small color change at the entry changes how the whole front of the house reads.

Every one of these gets the same base discipline: hardpan ripped and recompacted where the yard needs it, control joints cut where they will not run through the middle of a seating area, and slope planned before anything is poured, not adjusted after the fact.

Finish and color options

The same slab can be finished half a dozen honest ways, and the right one usually comes down to heat underfoot and how much you want it to look like stone or pavers rather than plain grey flatwork. Stamped concrete replicates flagstone, brick or cobble at a fraction of the cost of the real material. Exposed aggregate washes back the surface to show the stone underneath, and it is the most common finish on a pool deck for exactly that reason. Broom finish is the plain, textured, slip resistant standard most driveways and walkways use. Colored concrete, whether integral or a topical stain, changes the whole read of a slab for a fraction of what tearing it out costs.

Color and heat are connected in this valley. A deep integral color looks superb in a photo and runs noticeably hotter barefoot in July, which is why we talk through the finish choice standing on the actual site rather than off a color chart in an office.

Pavers and retaining walls

Pavers do some things concrete cannot, individual units settle rather than crack, and a broken paver swaps out in an hour instead of a jackhammer and a new pour. We build both, so the honest answer about which one belongs in your yard depends on the use case rather than which trade happens to be standing in front of you.

Retaining walls hold a sloped lot's soil back and make usable flat ground out of a grade that would otherwise be wasted. Drainage behind the wall is planned with it, not added afterward, because a wall that traps water behind it is a wall that eventually fails.

Repair, removal and resurfacing

Not every problem needs a full replacement. A cracked section around a fixture, root damage from a mature tree, or a slab that has simply aged out can often be cut, removed and repoured in a matched finish rather than torn out wholesale. We tell you honestly at the walk through which of the two your project actually needs.

Demolition and removal of old flatwork, and the haul off that comes with it, is priced as part of the same estimate so there is no separate contractor to coordinate.

Garage floors

Epoxy and polyaspartic coatings turn a plain garage slab into a durable, easy to clean surface, and we describe the systems honestly rather than oversell what a coating can do over a slab with existing problems. If a garage floor needs structural repair first, that comes before any coating goes down.

Concrete & Hardscape questions, answered

What it costs, how long it takes, and what we need from you before we start.

Will my concrete crack?

Concrete moves, so the job is controlling where. We compact the base properly, set reinforcement, cut control joints in the right places and slope for drainage, so any movement happens along a line we chose rather than at random.

Pavers or poured concrete, which is better?

It depends on the use case. Pavers settle individually instead of cracking as one piece and repair a broken section in an hour. Poured concrete is faster to install over a large area and has fewer joints for weeds to find. We build both and will tell you honestly which fits your yard.

Can a cracked section be repaired instead of replaced?

Often, yes. We can cut out a damaged section without disturbing what is around it, such as a skimmer or an existing fixture, and pour a new section with a matched finish. Whether repair or replacement is the right call depends on what is happening underneath the crack, which we check at the walk through.
