Salas Outdoor builds backyards and pours concrete in Madera Ranchos, the unincorporated community west of the City of Madera along Avenue 12 and Road 24. The lots here are a different scale than a city subdivision, often a half acre or more, which changes what the work usually is: a long private driveway, a shop or barn pad, RV and equipment parking, and a backyard that has real room for a patio, a cover and turf without crowding a fence line six feet away.
The concrete is poured by our own crew, the same crew that has worked this valley since April 1980. Out here that matters more than usual, because a long driveway or a heavy equipment pad needs a base built for the load it will actually carry, not the load a small-lot slab is designed for.
Building for big rural lots
A Madera Ranchos property usually asks for more concrete and more variety of it than a standard city lot. Long driveways out to the road, a pad for a shop or a barn, a level apron for an RV or a boat, and a backyard patio and cover are often all part of the same conversation, even if they get built in phases. We price each piece separately so you can build the driveway this year and the patio next, without repricing anything.
Septic systems and well setbacks are common out here and they constrain where a slab, a pad or a pool deck can go. We work around them rather than around a guess, checking the actual system location with you before anything gets designed.
- Long driveways and approaches built for daily vehicle and equipment loads
- Shop, barn and equipment pads sized to what actually sits on them
- RV and boat parking aprons with a base built for the weight
- Patios, covers and turf on the same property, phased or built at once

Hardpan, well water and the base underneath it all
This part of Madera County sits on the same hardpan that runs through most of the valley floor, and on a large rural lot that base has often never been compacted or worked at all. We rip and compact it properly before anything is poured, which matters even more on a heavy pad than on a small patio, because there is no forgiving it later under a shop building or a loaded trailer.
Drainage has to go somewhere specific rather than just away from the house, since many Ranchos properties are on well water and septic rather than city storm drains. We plan where runoff actually goes as part of the design, not as an afterthought once the concrete is down.
Madera Ranchos questions, answered
What we build in Madera Ranchos, how quickly we get there, and what it costs to find out.
Do you build driveways and pads for rural properties, or only city patios?
Both, and out in the Ranchos the driveways, shop pads and RV aprons are as much of the work as the patio. We size the base and the reinforcement for the actual load, whether that is daily vehicle traffic or a parked trailer.
How do you work around our septic system and well?
We check the actual location with you at the walk through and design around it, rather than assuming a standard setback. If we are not sure where a line runs, we ask before we plan anything on top of it.
Is a half acre lot too big to do all at once?
No, but most people phase it anyway. We price the driveway, the pad and the patio separately so you can build what matters most first and add the rest later without renegotiating.
